It's hard to believe that more than 2 weeks have passed since our journey down to Fort Valley for the Bass and Grass.
To say the least, we had an excellent time. Hanging out with old friends, meeting new friends (big shout out to the Arditti's!), enjoying the kids, and watching some excellent acoustic music on Sat night. Thanks again for the McGehee's for hosting. The only problem was that it was too short! Missed seeing a lot of folks as well. This simply means we'll have to do it again sooner rather than later.
Check out the slide show below. The music is by Gove Scrivenor, one of the artists at the BnG. The songs are "Minuet for the Backroads" into "Shine On".
As fate would have it, on our drive home, we ended up in Milledgeville GA (my birthplace) by taking a semi wrong turn. We then decided to quickly pop in and say hello to my Cousin Colin. Colin is a UNC grad but we don't hold that against him. He happens to live across from a home that Flannery O'Connor lived in for some years growing up in as a child. You can see a picture of the home in the montage below.
An incomplete list of things that have happened since the BnG:
1. Titmice (John the Ornithologist identified) had left the nest when we returned home
2. Canes got swept in the semifinals by the Penguins (great run nonetheless)
3. Lucy finished her first year at pre-K (this makes us sad, so that means it's been a great run).
4. We saw this crazy communist puppet show (Jen's choice mind you) at the Raleigh Little Theater. The Bread and Puppet Show. This is a whole 'nother post...
5. We rented canoes with kids at Lake Johnson
6. We set up a really cool and hopefully effective tomato support system (I'm truly optimistic it will work). I had to dig 8 post holes and it liked to "kilt" me! Pictures to follow soon.
7. Jen fed 40+ folks at church: fajitas, home made ice cream, etc. wow!
8. Jacob read at his school's final mass for the year. He crushed it.
9. I won tickets off the radio to see the Roller Derby and then a day later, on another station, I won tickets for a concert out at Shakori Hills... sweet!
I'm getting ready to travel to California for a conference this weekend. Mimi and Pop are coming up this week/weekend and we are really excited.
We send our best to all.
